What should I bring to Thailand?
As a frequent traveler, I always try to keep my luggage to a minimum. Most of the time, I only carry one suitcase and a handbag or backpack. Especially when you go on vacation in Thailand, you can leave many things at home. Here are some reasons why you should travel light:
1) You can buy almost everything in Thailand.
Most travelers in Thailand find it very easy to get the things they need for their stay on arrival. Clothes, for instance, are sold almost everywhere at affordable prices if you’re not in a fancy shopping mall. In addition, you’ll probably want to buy some souvenirs and gifts for your loved ones at home. So keep in mind to leave some space in your bag(s).
2) You will travel with much more comfort.
It is very common to use all kinds of transportation in Thailand. When you travel to some island, you will likely take the plane, the ferry and the songthaew. It happened to me a few times that I had to roll up my pants and carry my bags over the water while trying to get on a boat. In cases like this it is best to have as little luggage as possible.
3) You save time and stress.
Thailand is a popular tourist destination which becomes evident once you arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport. If you can keep the number of bags to a minimum or bring everything on board as a carry-on, you will not only save time at the endless luggage claim, but also travel with more serenity without having to count your bags every now and then.
